Accessibility
NOT A FULL CONFORMANCE CLAIM — every page passes an automated audit; the manual checks below are still owed, and this page says which.
This site should work with a keyboard, with a screen reader, with reduced motion, at high zoom, or any combination of those. Where it does not, that is a bug rather than a limitation. This page says what has been built in, what has not been checked, and how to tell us about a barrier.
What we are aiming at
WCAG 2.1 at Level AA, the standard the European EN 301 549 and most accessibility law refer to.
Manolab holds this site to it by choice. Camcorder is a free prototype from a US company, and as far as we know no specific accessibility law covers it; the standard applies here anyway, because a page some people cannot use is a broken page.
Conformance status
Partially assessed. On 2 October 2026 every page of this site — home, support, the overview and the three documents — was audited with Lighthouse 13.4.1 (which runs axe-core) at phone size, and every page scored 100 on accessibility with no failed check, colour contrast included.
An automated audit finds roughly a third of the problems a person would. So no claim of full conformance is made until the manual checks below are done, and this section will say when they were, how, and what they found — including whatever is still open.
What has been built in
These are properties of the site as it stands, each one checkable in the page source rather than taken on trust:
- Semantic HTML: one heading at the top of every page and real headings below it in order, landmark elements, a language set on every page, and content that reads correctly with JavaScript switched off.
- A plain-text twin of every page, published at the same address with a .md extension, for a reader or an agent that wants the words without the chrome.
- A skip link at the top of every page, and a visible focus ring — a 2px off-white outline — on everything focusable.
- Colour contrast computed rather than eyeballed: every text colour on this site clears 4.5:1 against its ground, the quietest at 6.4:1.
- Reduced motion is honoured.
- Nothing between you and the page: no cookie banner, no consent wall, no interstitial, no newsletter modal, no notification prompt.
- No third-party fonts, pixels or embeds. The one thing loaded from elsewhere is the person-check on the support form.
What has not been checked
Named rather than left to be discovered:
- No full keyboard-only pass over every page by a person.
- No screen-reader pass (VoiceOver, NVDA) by a person.
- The person-check on the support form is Cloudflare's, and has not been tested with assistive technology here. If it stops you, write to us from the app instead, or by post.
- On a phone, the documents' table of contents opens as a sheet; while it is open, one automated check flags its role as not quite right for the element it sits on. It is being fixed.
Each one is a job, not an opinion, and will be written into this page as it is done.
What this statement covers
This website. The iPhone app, and the film pages at camcorder.media, were not assessed here and are not in scope; the app is a prototype, and its own accessibility has not been reviewed.
